Adventures in maintaining an Nvidia system (continued)

Previously I had an issue after the Nivida driver update the 595 broke my system somehow. I posted about it here, and user @gpmitch was kind enough to guide me through the steps to manually updating the Nvidia driver after removing it. The system has been working okay since, apart from the lack of the 32-bit components to the driver that weren’t built for whatever reason.

Now I’m having an issue upgrading to 26.04. I expect it is related to the manual installation of the Nvidia 595 driver somehow, but I don’t know how to troubleshoot it.

Ubuntu Version:
25.10

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
KDE Plasma

Problem Description:
Running sudo apt full-upgrade is not working.

Relevant System Information:
Include any details that might help (e.g., hardware, drivers, or special configurations).

What I’ve Tried:
So far I’ve only tried updating apt and retrying the commands over the last few days. I was hoping this was just a phased roll out sort of thing, but I guess it might be more than that.

Are those nvidia packages held by some APT setting, like apt-mark hold?

You also have WineHQ and Nvidia sources, which will be disabled during the release upgrade but you should consider backing up the configs of their packages and purge the whole lot. There was another topic about some Wine issue, which seemed to be related to a release upgrade from a state with wine from WineHQ which ended up with a Frankenwine from Ubuntu but with config from the previous WineHQ installation, as it seems.

I was able to change to the Nvidia 580 driver via the driver manager GUI, and then upgrade to 26.04. Now I have the new driver and the system working. Just wanted to post this in case it can help someone else with similar issues.
