For Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04, modify the functionality to enhance user experience and improve work efficiency. Add the option to manually enter folder addresses.
Which app are you referring to? I don’t recognise the icon.
What specifically do you mean by “a manual address bar”?
The missing image earlier illustrates how Windows is designed to be user-friendly.
Linux and Linux distributions were created because the developers wanted an operating system and applications that were not Windows.
I for one do not want a cheaper, but massively safer, look-a-like Windows OS.
The communities that develop all the parts that make up a Linux distribution have their own ideas of how an operating system should work and look. I am quite happy with the way that Ubuntu is progressing. Besides, if you want changes to the user interface must communicate with Gnome.org
Ubuntu uses the Gnome 3 Desktop Environment and the Gnome 3 Shell User Interface.
I believe you’re referring to adding a manual path entry bar — where users can type the full folder path directly and press Enter to navigate to it immediately.
If so, I agree this is a very useful feature and quite important in a file manager, especially for users who prefer working with exact paths instead of clicking through folders.
It would definitely improve efficiency and workflow.
I’m not sure I understand your problem, but maybe this solves it? Click in 3 dots and select ‘Add to Bookmarks.
I finally understand what you’re talking about.
Select “Open File” (or Ctrl+O) to open the dialogue.
Now, just start typing — the bar will automatically open to let you type your path.
If press “/” to start, it will start at root. If you press anything else, it will narrow down the path that you’re already pointing to.
So, the bar is there, but it’s not intuitive that you can just start typing.
Try it out. It’s nice and easy.
