Hey there, I’m new here but not in the Linux world. I began with Slackware and Debian. My first Ubuntu was Dapper Drake and I’ve been following closely ever since.

I’m also applied to a role and this time, I decided to join this new forum (new for me, IRC is where all magic used to happen). I’m really glad to see this friendly area where I could meet my future collegues

I used to be a Gnome foundation member too long ago, and now I’m decided to start contributing to the community back again. I hope I could find a project in Ubuntu where I could be a fit. Cheers!

Hello all!

I’m Kyle, and I have long used these forums to reference, but have yet to contribute!

I have used a flavor of Ubuntu as a daily driver(aside from a few experiments with DSL, Debian Fedora, Gentoo, Void, and an LFS project that used a fresh Debian install to act as a building platform.) since the summer of 2007 with Feisty Fawn.

I have spent the last dozen years working in infrastructure, and the last two have also been accompanied by becoming a father and returning to university in pursuit of a mathematics/computer science degree. I am on track to graduating in Spring of 2024 and will then pursue a masters of science in mathematics.

After many years of eyeballing jobs at Canonical, I have finally applied for one, Engagement Project Manager. I hope to be able to contribute through efficient leadership, team-building, planning, and with the knowledge I am continuing to acquire.

I really have to thank everyone within these forums. I have very rarely been left without a clear solution (or at least a clear path to one!) to any of my many technical mishaps over the years. This truly is the best and most fluent Linux community on the internet, and I look forward to playing my part, as a Canonicaler or a contributer!

I am a recent graduate in Mathematics and Computer Science. I have been using Ubuntu and other Linux distributions operating systems for most of my activities. I applied for Linux support engineer role at Canonical and I got referred to this community.I really would like to work with Ubuntu products especially in a Linux environment. Any tips on how to increase my chances of getting selected?

Hey, I’m Joe. I’m not a Canonicaler and I’m not exactly new (I celebrated my 10 year anniversary as Ubuntu Member in March), but I am returning after a few years as an average user. During my hiatus, a great deal has changed in the Ubuntu community and in the Ubuntu software. I feel that it has given me a new perspective, as I discovered it was easier to just start from scratch than to try to patch the holes in my knowledge. So I did my LFS for the first time since 2006, I think, and I’ve been studying LXD and Snapd, both of which I find extremely exciting.

What has been a bit frustrating for me, is that the Ubuntu community is so scattered these days. Is there a map of community sites somewhere? I mean, I discovered the LXD youtube channel by complete accident, which is a shame, because he’s doing a fantastic job. And I had to spend some time figuring out how to watch the Desktop Team Indaba live, which is sort of important if you want to contribute to it. So I would like to have a site that simply lists the official Ubuntu channels and related Canonical channels.

Also, I find the use of orange and purple a bit confusing. It used to be that orange was for the Ubuntu Community and purple was for Canonical. Is there a policy on this anymore? If the goal is to revive the Ubuntu Community, then I think it’s important that there is one, because real or perceived, there is always going to be a difference between doing it for love and care and doing it for pay and career.

Hi Dana Smith - just introducing myself after being prompted to do so shortly after applying for a position in HR. Love that you do things differently and that you are excellent collaborators, hopefully one day I will have the opportunity to be part of your team!

hey there,i have problem,i have been stuck in this level for about 30mins and i cant type my password, how long does it take normaly to install??

Hey y’all, I’m a candidate for a couple of positions at Canonical, but I was happy for the suggestion to check in here, because I’ve actually been looking for some guidance on the recent CISA vulnerability notifications, w/r/t Linux Kernel, and its effect on ubuntu end users… am I in the right place? Thanks for any help, and for all the good y’all do.

Context:
While my MSP organization doesn’t officially support Ubuntu endpoints, we (don’t actually have acceptable use policies for clients, and) do have a handful of users who I just so happen to know use their personal ubuntu laptops for work use (remoting into the office via encrypted third party vpn, usually; rarely they bring them in to directly connect to office networks).

I’m wondering if I should ask our engineers to lock down VPN/Network access to Windows OS (or the safe versions of Ubuntu once I compile the list) for the time being, and/or send out a notification to ubuntu users to request they update… or if that’s overkill, because this seems to be targeting server level access… But then again some of these ubuntu users may have direct server access… and they all have server stored folder permissions…

So yeah, could anyone direct me to the appropriate category/ies and/or resources to keep looking into this, and formulating a response plan? Unfortunately for me, I’m currently the only resource dedicated to reviewing and responding to these types of vulnerabilities, so any suggestions/guidance/work y’all can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Gracias!

Hi all.
I’ve been using Ubuntu as my desktop OS for the last few years. Prior to that, I was using win…a well known desktop OS that’s famous for being exploited by viruses and using far too many resources just to boot up.
A long time ago, I used SCO Unix and I still remember the basics of terminal use - but to help me re-learn these skills, I have a Raspberry Pi and have set it up as a RAID1 backup & Pi-hole server.
Not sure I’ll be able to help much - but I’ll be reading lots, I’m sure!
