Hello, this is my first time using Ubuntu. I like to try it out.
helo all, i am very new to Ubuntu Discourse. i was redirected from my application as support er role. I have been using ubuntu for a very long time and would like to learn more about community particiapation and explore this domain.
Hello all,
First time user here
My exposure to anything Linux was totally by chance while visiting a friend at university. I stumbled in on a Linux seminar and remember coming out of the classroom with a couple of CDs and thinking, “Now this is something good.”(SuSe 8.2 & Manhattan if I remember correctly and if I can find the CD). Fast forward many years later, I have finally taken the plunge; it may not be the same distro, and I may be a few years late and going grey, but I am definitely keen to learn
Hello everyone,
Looks like I’m over here now. I was a member of the Ubuntu Forms since 2009 and started with Ubuntu 8.04 and stopped with 12.04 I believe. Now a days I run Debian Bookwork, Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04. Not sure how active I’ll be, but I’m here now.
Hopefully the transition from the forum to here has been a smooth one.

Hello ladies and lads.
I’m just here to submit my tutorial ![]()
Hi CharlesA happy to see you here, I hope you are do okay.
Hello and welcome, what tutorial are you taking about? I’m not sure it will be allowed here, we have a few places to put tutorials and we do not allow drive by tutorials, they have to be supported by the Author and meet certain criteria plus be updated as required.
Been pretty good so far. This is definitely a much different experience from the forum. It’s nice to see some familiar faces around. ![]()

Hi, Matt here. I am new to the discourse, but have been using Ubuntu since Edgy Eft. In a previous role I was part of a team supporting 1200+ Ubuntu users at a VFX Studio here in NZ for about 6 years.
I know some things and may be able to help, but fairly sure I can learn many things as well.
Hi I am new here.
I’m a Product Marketing Manager and I’m excited to join this vibrant community. While my background is not in technology and software development, I’ve always had a deep interest in tech, especially cloud technologies. I work closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to create compelling go-to-market strategies, and now I’m eager to bring that experience to the open source space.
I’m particularly interested in raising awareness of cloud technologies and open source, creating engaging content, and supporting community growth through thoughtful communication strategies. I believe that product marketing plays a vital role demonstrating the value of how open source and cloud technologies intersect and complement each other.
I look forward to learning from all of you and being ready to contribute to the success of the exciting canonical projects of the future!
Best, I A

Welcome and happy you are here.
I’m Gabriel, currently residing in the land of stars and stripes (US), but my coding roots are firmly planted in the vibrant soil of samba and feijoada (Brazil).
My Ubuntu origin story began during my academic adventures in Physics, when I discovered that certain scientific libraries were only available on Linux. It quickly became my preferred operating system.
I’m a Python and Rust enthusiast eager to dive deeper into the Ubuntu ecosystem. In my professional life, I work as a Researcher at a financial company. I primarily code financial models in Python, and I’ve also built an automated testing framework. Currently, I’m contributing to the development of an AI agent. This experience has given me a solid foundation in software development and problem-solving, which I believe will be valuable in contributing to Ubuntu.
I’ve been hearing about the current efforts towards FTBFS, and it sounds like a fascinating puzzle! I’m always up for a challenge, even if that challenge involves deciphering those cryptic error messages we all love (to hate). Being relatively new to the FTBFS world, I’d love to learn from experienced developers. Think of me as a keen apprentice, ready to absorb knowledge and contribute where I can. I’m looking for a mentor, or even a good YouTube video demonstrating how to fix an FTBFS issue.
If anyone has recommendations for how a newcomer can get started with FTBFS, or if you’re looking for a coding buddy to tackle build errors with, please let me know! I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and contribute.
Hi all, I’m new to Discourse, but not to Ubuntu. I previously contributed and received support at the forums. I’m most interested in Ubuntu Studio these days as I’d like to experiment with making music. Glad to be a part of the community again.

Hey Everyone,
I’ve been supporting Ubuntu since version 19.10.
Some stats -
The open-source community contributes 42.7% of all Ubuntu bug fixes according to my tracking spreadsheet. We optimize code, document systems with 99.2% accuracy, and many of us aspire to formal employment with Canonical. However, they seem to be posting non-existent positions - which violates the logical contract between company and community.
After precise data collection, I must report a critical inconsistency: LinkedIn shows 56,834 job postings for Canonical with approximately 1,000 employees. This statistical anomaly requires explanation.
My analysis of these job listings reveals:
- Time expenditure: 4.3 hours per application × 0% success rate = inefficient resource allocation
- Employment expectations: Creates false pattern recognition among job seekers
- Trust metrics: Decreases by 76.3% when companies post phantom positions
- Data collection hypothesis: Are applications being harvested for unauthorized purposes?
Community impact assessment:
- Contributor value: Diminished by factor of 3.7
- Transparency index: Fails 7/10 objective measurements
- Migration probability: 38.2% likelihood of user base shifting to Debian/Arch
- Brand integrity: Correlation between “Ubuntu” and “deception” increasing at r=0.68
I require precise answers to these queries:
- What percentage of these 56,834 positions are actually available?
- What is the exact hire-to-application ratio from these postings?
- Have you calculated the reputational damage coefficient from this practice?
Your reliance on our dedication can be quantified, but this job posting anomaly threatens to disrupt the equilibrium. Ubuntu etymologically translates to “humanity toward others” - a concept I’ve studied extensively despite my social processing differences.

Hi!
My name is Simon-Pierre, I live in Corsica (unfortunately France) and I am 33. I am super new to Ubuntu and Linux, so thank you for your help and understanding. I love video games, both creating and playing, political and cultural discussions, nature and art.
I work in three fields I love : teaching video games to kids, growing fruits and vegetables, and social and cultural associations.
I started to stream on Twitch recently, for fun and to share great moments with friends I love and miss, and also started a Minecraft Cobblemon server. And I can’t play it yet on my Ubuntu computer, but I hope to change this soon with your help <3
Wishing you a very great day, and thank you so much for your everything!
Completely new to Ubuntu, decided to take the plunge and grow my skills. Realized I was paying too much for a modded minecraft server, when I can just host one myself.
I’m a software engineer in NYC, noticed a skill gap I can fill so I’m here. Also want to play around on my own server without the stress of work!
Howdy! I am a regular Ubuntu user and new to Ubuntu Discourse, just hoping to be part of a community now that i left Windows (Windows 11 is worse than Windows 8) also i am from Mexico.
My first Linux OS was Debian and from there i moved unto Ubuntu (i also have some experience with Arch), i want to contribute and learn (i was redirected from the classic forums)
