About Discourse...but not Site Feedback

Time to turn the music back on in The Lounge and restart conversations.

There kind-of are 3 levels of trust already on this Discourse instance:

  1. New users: Lurk, read, limited posting. Building trust, learning the culture.
  2. Regular users: Full abilities, including access to this Lounge category.
  3. Staff: Moderation, Category and Group incantations, etc.

(That’s an oversimplification. There are actually four trust levels, plus separate groups for Staff)

Is anything in particular supposed to happen here?

Or is it one of those lounges where you’re meant to read your newspaper and keep quiet?

The Lounge category has the same purpose as The Cafe on UbuntuForums.

We just happen to be boring and not chattery right now.

Folks must be Level 3 (trusted regular user) or above to see topics in this category.

At least, if it’s Level 3, it should be a bit more sedate than the UbuntuForums version, where any new user can vent their frustration about <item-that’s-bothering-them>.

Well, it’s been changed to Level 1 now. Welcome to the refugees from Ubuntu Forums who have been missing the likes of The Cafe and Ubuntu, Linux and OS Chat.

Just don’t leave too many crumbs on the carpet …

I like the campsite rule: Leave it better than you found it.

I do a lot of surf fishing and I quite often walk out with more than I walked in with.

@irihapeti
How does one proceed from Level 1 → Level 2 → Level 3 → Level n?
I think I saw reference earlier to being classified as Basic .
Is Basic the same as Level 1?

Hi @him610,

A very good explanation of trust levels, including progression, is at https://blog.discourse.org/2018/06/understanding-discourse-trust-levels/
