Why has irc been removed as support method in the Ubuntu 26.04.1 announcements?
i only see matrix, discord and mailinglists

Probably an accidental omission. The Comms Council has plans to sunset IRC as an official Ubuntu communications platform (although it will still be usable as an unofficial one), but those plans have not taken effect yet to my awareness and IRC should have been listed as a support platform as such.

The plan to sunset/drop IRC as official support is something i dislike and to be honest the matrix room isn’t that much active either. From what i have read from a lot of people is that they don’t like matrix and having trouble to set up an account and keep it. IRC is much easier. You can have both IRC & Matrix imho or even bridge them.

interesting - thanks for raising this. we had an MR from someone to drop IRC. perhaps that’s misalignment - i’ll have a chat internally and figure this out. thanks for flagging, Erich!
