My first serious +1 shift happened this week. I have focused on some FTBFS packages to help the OpenSSL 4 transition.

Work-needed items

There are still many packages which must be fixed for the upcoming OpenSSL 4.0 transition. See the ubuntu-devel mailing list OpenSSL 4.0 email for more info.

Detailed log

  • apache2/2.4.68-1ubuntu3
    Although version 2.4.68 has the OpenSSL 4 support for the ssl module, the md module still needed a patch - grabbed it from upstream.

  • open-vm-tools/2:13.0.10-1ubuntu5
    Upstream has a bug open for the OpenSSL 4 support. I have applied the patch from Fedora which is referenced in that bug - now building fine.

  • php8.5/8.5.9-0ubuntu1
    PHP 8.5.7 has the needed changes to work with the new OpenSSL. As we are ahead of Debian anyway (in the sense Debian didn’t transition to 8.5 yet), I kept following salsa an brought 8.5.9 from there. A tricky but nice merge, with the fix included.

  • libp11/0.4.19-1ubuntu1
    Eeeeeeek libp11 right This one was trickier (:
    Upstream version 0.4.19 introduced the support for OpenSSL 4, but builds against it in Debian/Ubuntu still needed some changes - and have shown gaps in the implementation.
    Please check the changelog + commit information on ubuntu/devel (RICH HISTORY YAY) for context in the needed changes. In particular, thanks @Frank for the functionality patch!
