Desktop Team Update - Monday 23rd September 2019

Hi everyone, below you will find the updates from the Desktop team from the last week.

If you’re interested in discussing a topic please start a thread in the Desktop area of Discourse.
We also have our weekly meeting on IRC. We meet on Tuesday at 13:30 UTC in #ubuntu-desktop on Freenode. There will be an “Any Other Business” section at the end where you are welcome to raise topics. These topics might be discussed during the meeting, or afterwards depending on the time, depth of conversation, topic and so on.

Last week’s notes are here: Desktop Team Update - Monday 16th September 2019
Next week’s notes are here: Desktop Team Update - Monday 30th September 2019

  • Reviewed and landed gnome-control-center merge requests.
  • Verified gnome-software SRUs
  • Checked errors.ubuntu.com reports that were holding up phased updates for gnome-software in 16.04 LTS.
  • Added support for new website field in snapd-glib.
  • Fixes to snapd-glib packaging detected by Debian.
  • Updated GNOME Software to use the new snap banner format. This means we drop support in upstream because the banners don’t match the existing GNOME Software format.

    • Continued providing debug info for the at-spi-atk autopkgtest/s390x issue to the Debian maintainer which finally resolved the problem by calling xvfb -s -noreset (seems like a common problem/solution used in the past in other GNOME components, good to know)
    • Updated evolution/ews to their stable 3.34 version
    • Fixed the bolt build by backporting an upstream change (was due to a mix of old kernel on builders and newer glibc)
    • Reviewed/sponsored unity-settings-daemon/indicator/greeter changes to user their own media key schemas
    • Looked at some proposed migration issues
  • Other
    • Looked a bit at an IBus/bionic/security upload regression pointed by Gunnar, pinged security team about it

  • Canonical Sprint in Paris
  • Printer Application Snaps: Test building of examples, Printer Application with dummy printer driver
  • OpenPrinting web site: Switched over to the new web site design, sorted out some last quirks with the students, especially on the printer database interface.
  • Avahi: Trent Lloyd finally got time to work on the localhost support. I have made sure that also Michael Sweet (author of CUPS) is in the loop to get the support done the right way.
  • cups-filters: Released version 1.25.6 upstream with several bug fixes, especially a fix for printing into printer clusters.
  • HPLIP: Backported some fixes from the Debian package to let PPD files not contain any option choice named “Custom” as CUPS 2.2.12 and newer does not allow this any more. Also suppressed any attempts by HPLIP to install packages.
  • Bugs.
